Policy on Caretaker Leasing

Date: Wed, 08 Jun 2005 14:07:19 +1000
From: Elsa Koleth <Elsa.Y.Koleth@student.uts.edu.au>
Subject: Attn: Community Group- Policy on Caretaker Leasing

To whom it may concern,
I'm a student at UTS and I'm conducting research into caretaker leasing as an alternative housing model in the City of Sydney.
Caretaker leasing agreements are a form of alternative housing, where people enter into a medium term lease agreement with a property owner, to occupy a vacant building that is pending development or vacant for some other reason, in exchange for a carrying out caretaking duties on the property (as a form of consideration instead of paying rent). The precedent for this housind model was a caretaker lease that was signed between squatters and Australand, with the support of South Sydney City Council, in Broadway in 2001.
Does your community group have a view on the issue of caretaker leasing agreements? Would you be willing to support such an arrangements being undertaken in your local area? Or are there any reasons why you would oppose it?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Elsa Koleth

Morning Gerald
How beautiful was our launch last week.... And what a shame the turn out wasn't better - but I guess some things just can't be helped. We had a few hold ups which delayed the invites going out - but these things happen.
Attached is a small blurb for you as requested.
I'm sorry I've taken so long to respond, I had a few days off last week and am back at work today.
Thanks again for your support too.
Cheers
Marie

Dear Mr Ganglbauer,
thank you for your email regarding the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Wattle and Kelly Streets.
On the 16th of November I forwarded a response from Minister Scully to your address at 51/558 Jones Street, Ultimo which stated that the plans for the project were now completed and that work was due to start in March 2005.
If you have not recieved this response please let me know and I will re-send it for you.
It is a great outcome after all the delays.

Dear Minister
On 17 September you wrote on my behalf to the Minister for Roads. The receipt of your letter was acknowledged on 28 September, however, no response has been received and the community is still left waiting and running for their lives crossing Wattle Street.
For your convenience please find my original letter to the RTA attached.
Yours sincerely

From: Rachel Shepherd, Rachel.Shepherd@...

Calling all Ultimo and Pyrmont and Chippendale parents with children under 11 (to keep the info up-to-date)
I am just starting the confusing business of trying to choose the right school for my 3 year old. My immediate neighbours seem to send their kids across the length and breadth of Sydney (St James, Forest Lodge, Summer Hill, etc).
Could you let me know which school you choose, why, and if you would do it again?
All information will be gratefully recieved and I am sure that there are lots of other parents out there who would appreciate the info (there are apparently more than 1000 children in Ultimo and Pyrmont alone).

I have been in touch with the planning section and have been told that the operational issues for the pool will be the responsibility of the management, whether it be privately operated of run by the Council.
Decisions and details of this will probably not be know for another 12 months. In the meantime, at the next Lord Mayor Forum (not scheduled yet, though) for Ultimo, the pool should be on the agenda and I am sure there will be an update on the status of the project. Your suggestion could be bought up then, regards Edda

Hi Edda
Sydney Central Courier, 1 June 2005Could you please find out and let me know who is going to be managing the operations of the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre? The City? A private company?
It would be important to talk to these people well in advance as to make sure that the sauna will be operated in a proper (Scandinavian) way and that all groups of visitors get their fair access over a week (women, men, mixed and family days).
I have seen saunas in this country where patrons wear bathers or wrap themselves in towels. This has to be avoided as it would ruin our Ultimo Aquatic Centre's sauna completely.
Thanks
Gerald

Just minutes from Munich Airport.
Actually an indoor swimming and sauna with clothing area (called Thermenparadies) and nude sections (called Saunaparadies). Nude section (over 16 yrs allowed) has small restaurant, three wading pools, saunas with different temps. (55, 65, 90, 100 degrees C), aromatherapy, massage areas, tanning booths, etc. Most employees speak English, take dictionary for the menu. Delightful place (especially during the colder months), very, very clean.

BLOG – Weblogs, or blogs, are a way of publishing to the web one idea at a time. By simplifying the process of publishing, letting authors create posts easily, and making it simple to link to related ideas on the web, blogs make it easy to update a website while still making sure your words retain a clear, personal voice.
The simplicity and immediacy of weblogs has made them extremely popular in a very short period of time, and they’re being used today by everyone from media outlets wanting to spread their message to ordinary citizens wanting to keep in touch with friends and family around the world.
As the weblog medium has evolved, it’s become evident that the collective posts which make up the millions of existing weblogs, along with the links that they provide to each other and to other relevant content on the web, represent an important new outlet for expression and communication. Best of all, it’s easy for anyone with basic internet skills to create a blog or to add one to an existing site.
Definitions from The Blue Sloth

“... I observed the words Ultimo Place at the bottom of the drawing. I was struck with the oddity of the name, and asked what that could mean, on which the Doctor (John Harris) with an air of the utmost importance, strutted up to me and said, I can explain that to you Madam. I was once summoned to attend a Court Martial, the gentleman in reading the charge happened to say this Court being convened on the 12th ultimo instead of instant; They were not classical but I Madam, being classical immediately perceived the mistake; I ridiculed them and wrote verses on the subject then and afterwards call’d my house Ultimo Place”.
From Mrs. Macquarie’s Diary, 1809
