We pay tribute to outstanding work, that globally fosters the arts & culture through sites on the Net. They should run well on all major browsers and platforms, download fast, and are beautiful as well as deliver excellent content: literature, (e-books, e-zines), visual art, (galleries as well as individual artists), film, music ... or general (cyber-) culture.

Renowned Internet awards exist, like .at-award (since 1998) http://www.at-award.at or AFR Australian Internet Awards (since 1996) http://www.webawards.com.au, however, they focus on their own countries and their language. There is also an inflationary number of give-away-awards without any selection criteria, which exist for the sole purpose of creating traffic in order to increase their advertising value. And there are also arts awards like Prix Ars Electronica (since 1987) http://www.aec.at, however, their focus is on innovative use of the medium itself, not so much on the content.

Cross-culture sites – bilingual or multilingual and cosmopolitan/multicultural – did not have their own voice. That’s where Gangart Awards come in.

Wir würdigen herausragende Arbeiten, die eine weltweite Kunst & Kulturszene mit Homepages fördern. Sie sollen gut auf allen wichtigen Browsern und Systemen laufen, schnell laden, schön sein, sowie gute Inhalte anbieten: Literatur, (e-books, e-zines), bildende Kunst, (Galerien, einzelne Künstler), Film, Musik ... oder (Cyber-) Kultur allgemein.

Und dann gibt es auch noch Kunstpreise wie den Prix Ars Electronica (seit 1987) http://www.aec.at, deren Schwerpunkt allerdings mehr am Medium selbst liegt.

Transnationale Kulturseiten – zwei- oder mehrsprachig und kosmopolitisch – hatten keine eigene Stimme. Deshalb präsentieren wir den Gangart Preis.
